Reference Materials

Selah is built on publicly available Scripture data. Below are the primary sources used to compile the promises and translations in this app.

Promise Collection

Precious Bible Promises

The 2353 promises in Selah are sourced from the “Precious Bible Promises” compilation by Eliranwong, which categorizes and tags promises found throughout the Old and New Testaments.

Bible Translations

Holy Bible XML Format

Verse text for all 262+ translations across 226+ languages is extracted from the Beblia Holy Bible XML Format repository. This open-source collection provides Bible texts in a standardized XML structure, making it possible to programmatically extract specific verses across hundreds of translations.

How It Works

Each of the 2353 promise references is matched against 998 Bible XML source files. For each translation, the relevant verses are extracted and stored as lightweight JSON files that load on demand when you select a translation.

The default text is from the King James Version (KJV), which is in the public domain. When a verse is not available in a selected translation — for instance, an Old Testament promise in a New Testament–only translation — the app clearly indicates this rather than silently substituting text from another version.

Licensing & Attribution

The King James Version text is in the public domain. Other translations are sourced from publicly available repositories and are used here for personal study and devotional purposes. If you are a rights holder and have concerns about any content, please reach out.

Selah is a free, non-commercial project built for the purpose of making God's promises accessible to as many people as possible, in as many languages as possible.
